The legal basis for education in Wyoming is vested in the will of the people as expressed in the Constitution of the state of Wyoming. The Constitution pertains to education, court interpretation of the laws, and the powers implied under them.

The Constitution of the State of Wyoming charges the legislature to provide for the establishment and maintenance of a complete and uniform system of public instruction. (Wyo. Const. Art. 7, Sect. 1).

The School District is a body corporate.

The official name of this School District is Teton County School District No. 1, State of Wyoming.

The Board of Trustees (hereinafter referred to as "Board of Trustees" or "board") is to be the governing body of the School District.
